The Danish flautist Janne Thomsen has established a reputation as an extremely sought-after soloist. She began her musical studies in Denmark at the age of four and has studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Paris Conservatoire. After completing her studies, she continued to win prizes at international flute competitions in Prague, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Boston. has also been awarded support from the Augustinus Foundation and the ARAM – associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Janne Thomsen is a passionate chamber musician, and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles including the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Salzburg Camerata, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica. Janne Thomsen has collaborated closely with leading contemporary composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Peteris Vasks, James MacMillan, Michael Berkeley, Bent Sørensen and Hans Werner Henze.

During 2004-2007 Janne Thomsen taught at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and continued teaching 2008-2010 at the Hochschule für Musik in Lucerne. Today she is based between Germany and Denmark, the latter, her native country, where she is the founder and artistic director of the Holstebro International Music Festival.

From Osvaldo Golijov to Béla Bartók’s virtuosic Violin Sonata and Georges Enescu’s dazzling Romanian Rhapsody, the concert is a journey through works inspired by the folk music of different cultures. On top of all this, the multi-talented South African Gareth Lubbe amazes listeners as the overtone singing viola soloist.

The Naantali Music Festival’s international ensemble will perform a collection of the best works by Italian composer Niccolò Paganini.

The concert features compositions by Beethoven, Debussy and Schoenberg that changed the course of musical history.
