Naantali Music Festival starts with a bang! Duo per due, composed especially for this concert by Aulis Sallinen, is premiered by Arto Noras, who has led the Music Festival for 40 years, and the new artistic director, violinist Elina Vähälä. Belgian composer César Franck’s works are filled with passion and the pathos of late Romanticism, while Korean composer Jeajoon Ryu’s cello sonata translates the beauty of the 19th century into contemporary language.

 Arto Noras is a contemporary giant of cello art. After studying under Yrjö Selin at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Paul Tortelier in Paris, his success at the 1966 Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition marked the start of a notable international career.

 Violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny is a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician performing all over the world, receiving praising reviews for her performances.

Ralf Gothóni

 The career of Ralf Gothóni as a pianist, chamber musician and conductor has taken him around the entire globe. He is renowned as a musician who stresses a comprehensive approach to his craft. Joonas Pohjonen

 Pianist Joonas Pohjonen won the Maj Lind Piano Competition in 1997. He has performed in Finland as a soloist with several orchestras and given recitals in Finland and abroad.
