The musical treasure chest of the British Isles overflows with riches: while the Mass by Renaissance master Thomas Tallis resonates with pure devotion, the ethereal sounds of Max Richter are known from the soundtracks of films and television series. Henry Purcell’s Dido’s Lament pierces the heart, yet not quite as deeply as John Tavener’s Song for Athene, which accompanied tears at Princess Diana’s funeral.

A regular guest of the world’s great concert halls, Barry Douglas brings authentic Northern Irish spirit to the gems of Celtic repertoire. The evening culminates in Frank Bridge’s Romantic Piano Quintet—a flood of passionate melodies.
