We wish a happy birthday to Arto Noras! With a staggering degree of talent and virtuosity, this concert will come some way to reflecting the life’s work of Arto Noras. The friends will take the stage with a carefully selected musical programme to make the concert one big party for the audience as well.

Arto Noras

 Arto Noras is a contemporary giant of cello art. After studying under Yrjö Selin at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Paul Tortelier in Paris, his success at the 1966 Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition marked the start of a notable international career.

Ralf Gothóni

 The career of Ralf Gothóni as a pianist, chamber musician and conductor has taken him around the entire globe. He is renowned as a musician who stresses a comprehensive approach to his craft. Gothóni has premiered more than a dozen piano concertos and worked with more than 100 international recording labels.

Private: Petteri Iivonen

 Petteri Iivonen is one of the finest Finnish violin artists of our times, with accolades for his performance focusing on such aspects as flawless technique together with sensitivity and considered phrasing. Since 2019 he has served as first concertmaster of the legendary Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris.

Private: Patrick Gallois

 French flautist Patrick Gallois has enjoyed a successful international career as both a soloist and conductor. He is a regular guest soloist with major orchestras and chamber music festivals in Europe and the Far East.

Private: Radovan Vlatković

 As one of the leading instrumentalists of his generation, Radovan Vlatković has pursued an extensive international career not only as a soloist, but also in making his instrument known through recordings and teaching.

Elina Vähälä

 Elina Vähälä is among the most sought-after Finnish violinists in the international music scene. Her sound and virtuosity win praise from music critics around the world and her playing has been praised as dazzling, sensitive and brilliant.

Private: Michel Lethiec

 Michel Lethiec is one of the world’s leading clarinettists of his generation. He has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, and is also dedicated to teaching. Lethiec has performed a wealth of contemporary compositions and premiered works by numerous composers.

Private: Hartmut Rohde

 Hartmut Rohde is one of Europe’s leading violists. Tours as a soloist and together with chamber ensembles have taken him around Europe and also to performance venues in the USA, Canada, Australia, the Far East and Russia. He has served as a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts since 1993.

Private: Juhani Lagerspetz

 The distinguished pianist Juhani Lagerspetz is a much-loved orchestral soloist and recitalist who has performed not only in Finland, but also in several European countries, Russia, Japan, the USA, South Korea, Chile and Brazil. He has enjoyed success in both Finnish and international piano competitions.

Private: Young Song

 One of Korea’s most sought-after cellists, Young Song combines perfect technique with warm sensitivity. He has performed as a soloist to critical acclaim with several orchestras, and has toured the world extensively as a chamber musician.

Private: Okko Kamu

 Okko Kamu is an internationally acclaimed conductor who has also performed as a violinist and chamber musician. Victory in the first Herbert von Karajan Conducting Competition in Berlin in 1969 opened the door to his international career. Kamu was awarded a Pro Finlandia Medal in 1999 and the title of Professor in 2011.

Private: Jussi Särkkä

 Bassoonist Jussi Särkkä has served as 2nd solo bassoonist of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1995. He is a founder member and Principal of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra and solo bassoonist with the Finnish Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist in numerous Finnish and foreign orchestras, and at many music festivals.

Turku Philharmonic Orchestra

 The roots of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra date back to the foundation of the Musical Society of Turku in 1790. The orchestra is the oldest in Finland and one of the longest-serving in the world, securing formal municipal status as a 29-member ensemble in 1927. Nowadays it has 74 members and is based at Turku Concert Hall, which was designed by Risto-Veikko Luukkonen as Finland’s first dedicated concert hall and constructed in 1952.

 Romanian-born Mihaela Martin is one of the most masterful violin virtuosos of her generation.

Private: Frans Helmerson

 Frans Helmerson is a Swedish cellist, conductor and music pedagogue. He has served as a professor at the Universities of Music in Cologne, Oslo, Stockholm, Madrid, Berlin and Frankfurt.
