Niklas Schmidt was a founding member of Trio Fontenay, which is renowned for international concert tours and award-winning recordings, and he served as its cellist for two decades, recording almost the entire chamber music genre for the Teldec, EMI and Philips labels. These recordings include Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
One of the latest recordings is “Songs of Life” recorded in 2021, featuring 18 songs by composers from Sibelius to Granados, representing Schmidt’s personal journey from Finland to Spain.
Schmidt has served as a cellist in the Fine Arts Quartet (USA) since the beginning of 2018. In its new line-up, this quartet has already recorded three CDs for the Naxos label with works by Beethoven, Dvořák and Mozart.
Niklas Schmidt plays a Rogeri cello made in 1700.
